May12, "Me" EDiM for Sydney Sketch Club

What do you imagine, when you hear the word, "Me"? I chose the girl looking at her own shadow and my own graffiti. This post has two images. It's lovely to look at children's movements and have a chat with them to know their thoughts. It's very important for me, a picture book illustrator to keep in touch with them.
Btw, Cookie Monster came across my mind, first, seriously, when I heard the theme! I've grown up with Sesame Street and been a big fan of him. SERIOUSLY, a linguistics professor discussed about Cookie Monster for an example that an objective pronoun "me" is taking over a subjective pronoun "I" in a syntax unit. "Me and Julio Down By the School Yard," sounds more acceptable in an oral English, although "Julio and I..." is grammatically correct in a formal and written English. In the near future, that "me" use would become more common, especially in an oral language, the lecturer concluded. It deeply impressed me. Ever since, I've been more admiring Cookie Monster?! (Friends, you see, linguistics is seriously a funny study. Also, you must always show the evidence for your argument. I picked up the song title for my evidence.)
Oh, yes, in art, we have an interesting genre, self portraits. I enjoy it from time to time in different styles such as cartoons, caricatures etc. I hear some people have difficulty in making self-portraits. I just want to depict what I am now, not someone else. Have you ever tried any self portraits or other people's portraits? Do you have any funny topics about "Me"? If any and if you do not mind, please let us share your story.
"Medicines" is the theme of tomorrow.
Friends, Happy Painting!

  1. I really like both of these - and your story about Cookie Monster. He was one of my faves, as was the Count :) Our language skills are deteriorating - or just changing to face the future? Will we abbreviate everything we write in the future to align with texting generations?

    1. Rhonda, me, too, love the Count! (My dear friend told me, "That's a pun, means a kind of monarchy!" and I began to have a great interest in jokes, hahahaha!) Your mentioned points, all interest linguists. English is changing rapidly, especially by texting and digitalisation. Today, in my eye, research has difficulty to catch up with the rapid changing of society. Too fast. But it's quite a fun to read serious analyses on computing etc. Cheers, wink, wink Sadami

  4. Children love shadow play. I used to make shadow animals on the wall for my grandchildren. Then we progressed to puppets. Whenever they came to visit they always put on a puppet show for me. Lots of fun. When I first started painting I painted portraits of my friends and family members for practice. I painted one self portrait in acrylic several years ago and one in watercolor. Even though I have artistic license and can take away the flaws, I did not do so. True to life! I love your portrait of you making your portrait. Very smart! As for ME.............ME is the abbreviation for the state of Maine, where I live in the U.S.A.
    Wishing you a wonderful day.

    1. Dear Carol, like you mentioned above, children like it. Your story with the grandkids is really sweet and lovely. I have an Australian anaimal, Wombat's muppet! I love it! It sounds that you enjoyed portraits, some. Take it easy. "Have fun" is the most important thing. Abbreviation is very common and one of features of Australian English as well as the States. See how our langages will change. Kind regards, Sadami

  5. I like your pictures and I really appreciate your imagination. The challenge seems to be difficult. The words for each day are not so easy to depict in an illustration. You manage wonderfully.

    1. Thank you, Agnieszka! This practice is nothing different from picture book illustration. Illustration is more demanding and much tougher than this daily one. Can you imagine that illustrators struggle in years to finish up ONE picture book? Cheers, Sadami
