Victoria Cancer Council Art Awards & Encounter Myself

Hi, Friends, how have you been at a weekend?Yesterday, I made a self-portrait to meet "what I am." I kept laughing, facing a mirror! Ahahahaha! I couldn't stop it!! Because very happy and fun!I challenged A2. Technically, A2 is huge and pretty hard to control wash. Need more practice to get used to it. My artists frineds are looking forward to an outcome work ʚ(ˆ◡ˆ)ɞ .

Good news!

With your cheers, I was selected for Victoria Cancer Council Arts Awards 2011 as well as 2010.
(*The 2011 Gallery website is constructed NOW. Please check it later. Winner announcement is on 10th July. ) Selected entries--if artists agree---will be on sale for fundraising as well.
Dreaming in Chemo $750
(Metal frame. Double Mat)

Very happy. I have the same treatment with cancer and leukemia patients, even though I do not have either of them. The hospital staff celebrated the good news.
If you know cancer patients, family, carers, friends etc, etc, please pass this information.
Anyone can try the Awards, who is involved with cancer directly or indirectly. The real aim of the Awards is to lift up anyone touched by cancer. The Victoria Cancer Council's hard work has paid off. The benefits of Arts Awards have been well and widely recognised at The Ability Media International Awards 2010 for its creative excellence and social relevance.
Regarding my disability in the leg, the idiopathic chronic condition motivated me to explore who I am.
Lots of psychology books reading
(*ended up philosophy) at uni and after uni on identity, life, death and love. The reading helped my psychological growing or maturing at the tough time. The most important finding is how to love myself properly and love others as well.

My on-going maturing is
know who/what I was/have been,
encounter "who I am"
...and becoming "what I will be most."

The very interesting experience! Are we really happy with being ourselves? If not, why and which element? I dug it deep and met a distorted self and examined my value system. Then, I understood why and could accept "who I have been."
Further, a fascinating experience is a shift begins in me that goes through the past, the present and to the future.
I've found the meaning of my life in art and being convinced.

I've started loving myself properly. It means I can love others, too in a proper manner. Then, liberation. I chose to be an artist. I enjoy life fully and expect a good future, whatever the situations are/will be. Neither jealous of others nor wrongly proud of myself. Celebrate my even tiny achievements and happily applause others' great work, too.

Does my poor English make sense above?
I cannot tell them well, but that is a very profound truth(many famous psychologists are philosophers).
The violets from a dear friend are blooming out now.
Under a heaven, there's a season. My time for thinking and reading was over. Take an action, create art work, love myself and others---is my season. When I make portraits, everyone is so precious and unique. When I sketch something, everything is shining and beautiful. Of course, so you are, Friends!!
I deeply appreciate the encounter with you on net and on the earth.
Let us move on and live life fully!

Happy painting!

  1. "My on-going maturing is
    know who/what I was/have been,
    encounter "who I am"
...and becoming "what I will be most

Words to live a noble life by. I hope I can lead my life like this. Sometimes I worry that I will not reach my "most".

    This post is very thought provoking Sadami. And yes! This is the TRUTH;

"I've started loving myself properly. It means I can love others, too in a proper manner. " Your self portrait conveys this.

Your way with words matches your way with images. Beautiful!

  2. Dear Dusk,
Thank you very much indeed. Enjoy your life fully.
    Kind regards, Sadami

  3. Your English makes great sense !
Tis an honour to read it and absorb it.
Your self portrait makes me smile, just as you do.
You are shining and beautiful, too :)
    love and hugs xxoo

  4. A wonderful post to get us to think about ourselves and it's true that it's difficult or impossible to truly love another if one doesn't love oneself - and that's hard sometimes, too! You, once again, made me smile with this post in spite of the fact that it is about cancer! I love the paintings - all of them - and your self-portrait is so shining and bright, like you :) Have a wonderful week to come. As His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, says: If you want to change the world, first try to improve and bring about change within yourself. You are living those words, my friend.

  5. Dear Pat,
Thank you so much for your nice say on me. The self-portrait was a great fun. I'll keep trying "A2"!

  6. Dear Rhonda,
Thank you very much for a nice feedback and the wonderful Dalai Lama's say! Very happy to know you've got all what I wanted to tell in the post. Let us live our lives fully with joy!!
    Cheers, Sadami

  7. This is a very profound post, Sadami. First, congrats on your selection for the Awards!
You had to go through hard times to learn what is really important in life. And you have come out such a loving and laughing person, look at your portrait, it's great! You see beauty in everything and everyone! Your words and paintings are very moving to me. I appreciate the encounter with you! xx Judy

  8. Dear Judy,
Thank you so much for sharing joy with me! Also, your comment is a wonderful summary of my post. I'm very happy to have met you on the earth. Hope one day, we can see in person!
    Cheers, Sadami

  9. Mornin' Sadami, such beautiful words from one so full of life and wisdom. I smile bittersweetly with tears in my eyes for some words touch my spirit, some my mind, but all touch my heart. Blessings!

  10. I like your ideas and your paintings so much. Huge "Congratulations! " on your award nomination.
Also along my way I learned to live every day of my life here and now, it allows to even smallest nice things make me happy.

  11. Hi Sadami, nice to see your self portrait ! it's
stunning ! I love the flowers too ! your work is
    great !
    have a nice next week

  12. Dear Sadami -

Congratulations to you! Once more you inspire me with your timely post. This week I learned my dear older sister has cancer. It changes everything for her and our relationship too. At the same time my physical disability is worsening so I can't be a helper for her only a listener. Instead of doing things and going places for her I must sit back an receive information helping only by lending a sympathetic ear. But how useless I feel. So your comments about self examination and motivation are timely.

As always, I learn from you Sadami - patience and joy!

  13. Congratulations! Very good post! I love your self portrait and especially the dreaming in chemo one, it reminds me of my father in law!

  14. My mum passed away a month ago with cancer, and I struggle daily with a chronic condition, thank you for the thoughtful post, it helps to crystallize ones thoughts on how to get the most out of the life we have.
    Beautiful work as always.

  15. Hi, Sadami. I was looking for your weekly post and I finally found it. It's hard to paint a self-portrait looking at the mirror and smiling because at the end the smile becomes a grimace, and moreover you seem a fool, smiling to yourself on the mirror. But, of course, you succeeded and as I see you have adopted it as your new image. Have a wonderful week. Cheers.

  16. Dear Carol,
Thank you. Once you were a nurse and know medicare well. Please smile "sweetlyʚ(ˆ◡ˆ)ɞ." I feel many patients experiencing the same process I have. Aftermath, quite optimistic and postive about life!
    Cheers, Sadami

  17. Dear Irina,
Thank U. Live your life full. Your life is unique, individual and precious. Let us fully enjoy our lives! Happy painting!
    Cheers, Sadami

  18. Yahoo, Marty!
Yes, it's me. "Nice to see you, too." (I always look at your avatar.)Very happy to know you enjoyed my paintings.

  19. Dear Nanina,
Very happy to know you find something for you and the sisiter.

Nanina, I have no doubt. you're doing the most helpful assistance for your sister. "Empathic listening" is a great, great work that requires energy, time, experience and knowledge. It's art and not many people have good ears. Think of "conselling psychology." It's seriously an academic study and skills to be learned. Not many people can get it.

I've read through all the pamphlets at hospital on cancer that impacts on every single aspect of life. Nanina, I sincerely hope one day your sister will overcome "shock" and step forward. Not easy at all. It takes time and individual discrepancies are huge.

I believe your sister is very lucky, because she can tell you her emotions. Otherwise, people seek for help from professionals.

Nanina, hang in there, but please be kind to yourself, too. You need to have frineds/someone to listen to your pains.
    I'm always on your side.

    Best wishes, Sadami

As always, I learn from you Sadami - patience and joy!

  20. Hi, Vicki,
Thanks a lot! Very happy to know you enjoyed my paintings. So many people are involved with cancer. Let us enjoy life fully.
    Cheers, Sadami

  21. Dear Origame,
You're brave enough to talk of the mom and your struggle on your blog, too, which has impressed me so much. Please take care and enjoy your life fully.
    Kind regards, Sadami

  22. Hi, Albert,
The postrait is me, current Sadami. Basically, I do not use photo references. Above all, I felt so happy and began to laugh or smile naturally. That's the point, "naturally." Every time, when I looked at the mirror, I almost burst into a laughter. Quickly drew it and got on painting!
Just enjoy "being yourself"--is my best answer for a self-portrait. Not pretend to be someone else.
    Cheers, Sadami

  23. Sadami
Yes, I can understand what you wrote. Finding oneself is difficult... there are so many expectations out there... but for me, it gets better with age :) I think...

    Very nice drawings and paintings.

My sketchbook is running out of pages here in Beijing. I only found one that I like, but it's much bigger than my usual... Like you, a new/bigger size = a new challenge...
Unfortunately, it is a Moleskin, and it costs a lot... so I am still holding off, In case I can find one that is less expensive.

Anyway, have a nice week. Evelyn

  24. I think you found something very essential Sadami, a way of life that can lead to happiness..when you love yourself, you can love others.....others will love you,and that will make you happy.
Love the sketch of you, such a happy and open smile.

  25. Congratulations and what a beautiful portrait, full of life and joy.
Appreciate the simple things of life, the small happiness of every day is really essential. Always words of wisdom , Sadami, have a very good day!

  26. Hi, Evelyn,
Thank you for sharing what I've leaned and encouragements!

But regarding your sketchbook hunting, if you really cannot find a favorite size, get a big one and cut it into your favorite size--is another option. I sometimes do it.
I know quite frusting, when favorite ones are not at hand.

Sincerely hope you can get your favorite one ASAP & RIGHT NOW.
    Cheers, Sadami

  27. Dear Jane,
Thank you so much. Yes, your say is so ture. The self-portrait was a mirror of my emotions. So, I'm happy with my happy face.
Indeed, it was my psychology lecturer that acknowledged my talent and encouraged me to a professional.
    Cheers, Sadami

  28. Dear Lydie,
Thank you for encouragements. You, too, give me words of wisdom. I'll keep them all in my mind.
    Cheers, Sadami
