Sketches, Animals and Christmas Card

Hi, Friends, thank you for a long waiting! This week, I upload recent work, sketches and a Christmas card. I'll show you my Christmas card every Monday.(My new computer is on the way. Until that, could you please keep patience!)
Our lives are surrounded by other lives. Watching animals is heart warming and very interesting. In the first sketch, a little girl and a pigeon were at a fountain. Pigeons are good garbage collectors in a town, but their droppings are an agenda for a council. "Live and let live" is not easy.

The second work is for a
pelican, an important character for the text. I often closed my eyes and imagined how it flew with dignity...

Regarding pets, I'm a dog lover. The dog was taking a nap at a cake shop. I could not resist sketching her. Customers and pedestrians looked at me. But once, I get on work, nothing can stop me.

Too strong sunshine? Friends, please remember, we, Australians are getting into summer!Among mammals, Little Sadami loved deers and would go to a park to watch them. Unfortunately, I have an experience; a deer kicked me--oh, dear! I've been painting this fawn since primary school. How many times did I paint it?
Yet, I still learn something new, when I draw the fawn.

I believe that animals and incests do have souls.
Life is beautiful... I'm always filled with awe and joy.

Oh, yes, talking of a deer, Santa Clause has reindeers. Well, our Santa Clause and his reindeers might be suffering in air pollution. An immediate action is critical.
But above all, peace on the earth...
Otherwise, we, humans need to learn "live and let live" even from animals.

  1. Hi, Sadami,

I completely understand your intense light. We are here in Campinas, Brazil, on the same latitude as Australia. Your little girl is very graceful, and the dog and the deer too.

  2. Mornin' Sadami, wonderful post today. I've been working too much to paint lately and hope that changes with the first of the new year and a new work schedule.

  5. Our light alas is graying down so I appreciated all the sunlight in your paintings. It gets dark earlier and earlier. While people get excited about Christmas, I celebrate the Winter Solstice, the longest day, for after the twenty first the light brightens everyday as we head towards Spring. I've got my fingers crossed for your computer.

  8. Hi Sadami!
when I saw your drawing of a dog taking nap, I looked to my side and my Nina was identical, in the same position! I thought how the world is a small planet habited by the same species wherever the piece of land where he lives ... only humans insist on creating borders! the pigeon is not quite comfortable next to the girl ...?
then ... pelican, pigeon, girl, dog, reindeer,
us and Santa Claus, we are equal and we are in the same boat floating to the will of an infinite universe ...
..your beautiful illustrations make me "go"! ;))))))))))
hold me, but I turn into hippie!
    hugs and kisses dear Sadami!

  9. Dear Linda,
Thank you! Like you, ancient people celebrated the Winter Solstice, the sun. In southern hemisphere, June 20 or 21. Sometimes, I miss snow and white Christmas. Some Australians celebrate "Christmas in June."
After writing replies, I'll contact the computer shop to get a new one, while our art supply starts a big Xmas bargain from today. Oooops! For this poor artist, a big money. I'm going to be a little match girl?!

  11. Dear Teri,
Thank you! People silently surrounded me, but from behind me, not to interrupt me(*how kind they were!). The little girl was a Chinese background. The grandpa came to me and said Chinese, making the girl's hand waving at me. I did not understand his say(*even though I understand written Chinese), but we were very happy to share those sketches. Other people, too, talked to me. Teri, I'm sure art overcomes any differences and obstacles.

  13. Hola Sadami: impresionantes tus dibujos y acuarelas.

  15. Dear Jose,
Thank you. You, too, make lovely watercolors, especially, for landscapes. Hahaha, you love that dog. Me, too.
I'm not a master at all, but a life long learner. Of course, I love drawing human figures most, even though a picture book illustrator draws anything.
Hope my messages in the cards knock others' hearts.
    Cheers, Sadami
    Estimado José,
Gracias.

Hello Sadami: awesome your drawings and watercolors. The wait has been worthwhile. Have a stroke and a gesture in the picture worthy of a master. I love the dog by the way, apparently careless, which has provided the colors and the Pelican ... a gem.

  36. Brave Sadami! it's always kind of unnerving and at the same time exciting to sketch right there in a place full of people, sure they where in awe, that dog sketch is superb, though my favourite this time is the pelican, feels like it belong to a group of other paintings, it has a special warmth to it, or maybe I'm just a bit sentimental today? :P
    Have fun

  38. Dear Teresa,
Oh, what good eyes you have and you're right!! I've been wondering if anyone pays more attention to the pelican. It's one of the main character for a picture book text. I made 3 pages for the interpretation for a trial. I could not get through a selection, but a very big name in our industry acknowledges my talent, happily backs up me, and furthermore, keeps eye on suitable projects for me. Yey!!!
I always enjoy your blog that has so much interesting illustration industry info. I learn lot from you:).
Teresa, you're so sensitive. Please take care of yourself and enjoy art.

I know how to draw is fun in the parks and streets

Thank you! (*My new computer is on the way!)In Sydney, you can see pelicans very often. In order to make the images of Pelican, I took many photos on a beach and check pictures. Unfortunately, after taking the photos, I was involved with a very light traffic accident. But today, it becomes a nice memory, hahaha.

Yours has such lovely whimsy and yet very thoughtful messages...love those animal sketches especially. You have a strong sensitivity to them I think. I also believe all creatures have souls. I try not to kill anything, although occasionally a mosquito or a fly might bite and be annoying and then I slap! I am far from a perfect person, alas.
